Years ago i built my own platform bed. I was inspired by an expensive version, but mine cost less than $150.
This is all the parts of the bed. The frame, headboard, legs, and supports. All of it is pine, because pine is cheap.
The connections are simple metal brackets, which makes it easy to assemble and take apart. And i've taken this apart many times.
Even though it's pine, a good stain and polyurethane can make it look like a nicer wood.
And several grits of sandpaper combined with polyurethane will produce a mirror finish.
You need to use a memory foam mattress to create the low profile.
Here is the assembled bed. Low and wide was the platform bed look i was going for.
One nice touch was that when assembling the corners, i used the metal bracket combined with the square leg. Once screwed together it held everything in tight.
I assembled the bed upside down then flipped it over. Here you can see the middle of the bed supports.
The final look is of a typical platform bed. Very modern looking.
And combined with the simple yet strong bracket construction, it makes for a great spare bedroom bed.
